After state legislators repealed House Bill 2, the council made a decision to return neutral site championships to North Carolina, beginning with the Dr Pepper ACC Football Championship Game on December 2 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.

Football: The Dr. Pepper ACC Championship Game will return to Bank of America Stadium through the 2020 season.

North Carolina is included as one of the states listed to host NCAA championship events between the years 2018-2022, the NCAA announced Tuesday.

In total, North Carolina submitted 133 bids for hosting NCAA championship events beginning academic year 2018-19 through academic year 2021-22, with an estimated economic impact of $250 million.

"We have yet to see any evidence showing how the NCAA can ensure basic nondiscrimination protections for these events", said Sarah Gillooly, policy director for the ACLU of North Carolina. "We are thrilled to renew our relationships with so many terrific people, outstanding cities and first-class venues", ACC Commissioner John Swofford said in a statement.

The NCAA appears to have enacted a major shift in policy, using the heavy critical fire its receiving for its return to North Carolina as cover for its acceptance of gambling.
