President Donald Trump withdrew the US from the Paris agreement last week.

Trump's decision to scrap the Paris deal has left him isolated on the world stage and prompted a backlash at home, with several state governors, city mayors and powerful companies already drawing up plans to meet the pact's emission targets - without Washington's backing.

Failure to step up action against global warming would be "disastrous", California Governor Jerry Brown warned on Tuesday as he seeks to fill the U.S. leadership vacuum on climate change.

"We are the testing grounds". He says tides are getting higher, biodiversity is shrinking, coral is bleaching and coastlines are eroding. "We must acknowledge these realities".
