The news that broke Thursday that former IN football and basketball player James Hardy had been found dead IN a river IN Fort Wayne was a tragic ending to a 31-year-old life.

As of this writing, the cause of Hardy's death has not yet been determined, but there is an ongoing investigation.

Hardy, a former 2008 second-round pick of the Bills, was 31 years old.

Details on how Hardy passed haven't been released, but the news is tragic nonetheless, as he was arrested multiple times and ultimately placed in a mental facility after being deemed unfit for trial.

A worker reported spotted his body tangled in a logjam in the area of the Hosey Dam. In his career, he appeared in 16 games, caught 10 passes for 96 yards, and had two touchdowns in his rookie season.

Michelle Carter text: 'His death is my fault ...'
Wednesday's testimony focused on Carter's reaction to Roy's death, including a text to a friend that declared, "It's my fault". She supposedly considered herself friendless and unpopular, they say, and her texts to friends are now being read in court.

The Bills sent their condolences to the Hardy family on Thursday.

Hardy was a former multi-sport standout at Elmhurst High School and runner-up for Indiana's Mr. Basketball.

Hardy was a record-setting wide receiver for the Hoosiers from 2005-07, amassing 2,740 yards and 36 receiving touchdowns before entering the National Football League draft.

The life of James Hardy is one that included a lot of big things, including an unbelievable college football career and time spent in the NFL. He led the Big Ten in receiving touchdowns in both 2006 and 2007.
