Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant look to build a Warriors dynasty

But Thursday was a rare chance to celebrate. Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant reacts after scoring against the Cleveland Cavaliers during the second half of Game 5 of basketball's NBA Finals in Oakland, Calif., Monday, June 12, 2017.

The win provided redemption for the Warriors, who brought Kevin Durant over from the Oklahoma City Thunder last offseason to bolster their already high-powered offense. "I still feel that way today".

After being sidelined for part of last season and again during the 2017 playoffs with back pain, head coach Steve Kerr returned during the Finals and said he intends to coach "for a long time". Following Golden State's 2015 National Basketball Association championship, the team visited the White House in February 2016, when former president Barack Obama, an occasional golfing partner of Curry's, was still in office. But now that he did exactly what he set out to do, the feelings are getting even rawer.

"We're going to do what our leader [Curry] does", Iguodala said earlier in the week.

LeBron James, whose Cavaliers won the title a year ago and fell to the Warriors on Monday, said during a visit to Obama's White House in November that his team would "have to cross that road" if it triumphed again under Trump. Assuming ownership is willing to pay the significant luxury tax bill that comes with keeping this team together, Myers will still have to figure out workable contracts for Iguodala and/or Livingston that both sides can agree to.

Following the victory Monday night, warriors' fans danced in the streets in downtown Oakland and wildly honked their horns in San Francisco.

The parade wound through downtown Oakland before the rally near Lake Merritt. Why would such a player leave a team that wins championships, plays in the handsome Bay Area and will soon be moving into a new arena?

Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James also took exception to the "super team" moniker.

"I remember the first day of camp and I walk into camp, and I didn't know what to expect, I didn't know what these guys were like on the court", said Durant.

There are the Warriors, and then there are 29 other teams.

But that idea fizzled fast when the Warriors opened with a pair of lopsided wins at home, fought back late to steal the next game in Cleveland and then, after dropping their first game of the postseason, closed out the series at home.

The impending loss of the Warriors to San Francisco was on the minds of some fans who came out to cheer, though many threw the word "dynasty" around and expected one more championship parade in Oakland next year.

"Rather than focusing on the top of the league, we should be focusing on the rest of the league", Silver told The Washington Post before Game 4. "You've got people of every race, color, religion, creed, whatever, and everybody's just coming together and loving this team".
