Iran's Revolutionary Guard strikes Syria for Tehran attacks

The IRGC said it launched the mid-range missiles from bases in western Iran at Islamic State targets in Syria's Deir ez-Zor province, semi-official Fars News Agency reported.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard claims it launched airstrikes into eastern Syrian on Sunday, according to the Guard's website.

Iranian television showed footage of the missiles being launched into the night sky.

Iran is allied with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the ongoing Syrian civil war.

Seventeen people were killed and more than 50 wounded in the June 7 terror attacks on the parliament compound and a shrine to the late Ayatollah Khomeni in Tehran.

Islamic State militants have set up a new headquarters in Mayadeen, Syria, where they are digging in and likely planning more attacks against the West. Deir el-Zour is home to both Islamic State militants and civilians.

It added that if acts like the Tehran attacks were repeated, it will retaliate against the perpetrators and those helping them.

The IRGC had vowed revenge for the attacks and accused Saudi Arabia of supporting ISIS in the operation.
