The Washington Post reported Mueller may be interested in a meeting in which Trump allegedly urged Rogers and Coats to convince Comey to back off the probe into ousted National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.

President Donald Trump confirmed Friday he was under investigation and appeared to challenge the credibility of a senior Justice Department official, in a tweet that seemed to encapsulate his frustration with the ongoing focus on Russia's involvement in the 2016 election. She was appointed to the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight board in 2012 by President Obama, then appointed to the associate attorney general position by Trump. "Witch Hunt", Trump said in a Twitter message.

Mueller is now leading the investigation into whether Russian Federation interfered in the 2016 presidential election.

But Trump tried to remain on the offensive yesterday, charging on Twitter that investigators have so far turned up no evidence of wrongdoing. He testified that he leaked information about the notes through a friend to the Times to increase pressure for the appointment of a special prosecutor after he concluded Trump's administration "defamed" him and the Federal Bureau of Investigation after his May 9 firing.

Comey, whom Trump fired in early May, said in Senate testimony earlier this month that the President spoke to him privately on February 14 and asked him to drop the bureau's investigation into former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn's alleged ties to Russian Federation.

Northern Ireland's DUP wants "sensible Brexit", talks with May to continue
But the Government will press ahead with the first round of Brexit talks two days before the official opening of Parliament . He also suggested the Scottish Tories led by Ruth Davidson could add to the pressure on Mrs May to change course.

On Friday, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said that Trump technically "cannot obstruct justice" because he is the president. But Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, said he wants his panel to probe obstruction of justice. "Regulations way down, jobs and enthusiasm way up!"

"Why is that Hillary Clintons family and Dems dealings with Russian Federation are not looked at, but my non-dealings are?" he asked. "I can go around them" And he touted a new Rasmussen tracking poll that put his approval rating at 50 percent - an outlier among six June polls that found it ranged from 34 percent to 42 percent.

"You are witnessing the single greatest WITCH HUNT in American political history - led by some very bad and conflicted people!"

Trump cleared out the rumours about being under investigation after Rosenstein released a statement Thursday evening denying that the president is under investigation.

Vice President Mike Pence also has retained a private attorney for the Russian Federation probes, according to a Pence spokesman.
