Some of the more interesting available players: Pittsburgh goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury, a three-time Stanley Cup victor; Minnesota defenseman Matt Dumba, a right-hand shot who is just 22 years old; and Washington defenseman Nate Schmidt and backup goalie Philipp Grubauer, both of whom could help the Knights although only one of them could be taken.

On Monday, that meant establishing a deadline for teams looking to make a deal around which player they'll lose in the expansion draft.

The NHL announced Sunday the players that each of the league's 30 existing teams has protected in the expansion draft and which players each team has made available to the Las Vegas Golden Knights.

Shortly after protected lists were released Sunday morning, GMs began calling McPhee to try to poach available players from other teams.

It's an increase of $2 million from the $73 million cap last season, as players elected to use their escalator clause to raise it. "Sometimes, good goalies have bad years and average goalies have exceptional years", said Chayka. The 25-year-old has a.923 save percentage in his first 66 National Hockey League games with numbers last season mirroring Vezina trophy nominee Braden Holtby - albeit as a backup with fewer starts.

"The expansion draft, I think the way it's set up now is quite interesting", said Capitals assistant GM Ross Mahoney, who worked under McPhee for 17 years.

"We have things lined up", McPhee said. "It would be, 'Do we have too many players?' There are a lot of good players there". There are also a handful of teams looking for backup help, which suggests McPhee could leverage players like Domingue, Malcom Subban, who was left unprotected by Boston, Linus Ullmark exposed by Buffalo or Antti Raanta, who was a terrific backup to Henrik Lundqvist in NY, into other assets moving forward.

Mexico hold Portugal to 2-2 draw in Confederations Cup 2017
With this draw, Portugal and Mexico are in second and third place, respectively, in Group A with one point each. The second half saw both sides play with more caution, but Portugal looked good to get the "ultimate" goal.

"Here we go, boys". Vancouver's talented first-round pick in 2012 has just six points in 77 National Hockey League games. There's also a surplus of young goaltending talent, including Detroit's Petr Mrazek, Washington's Grubauer, the New York Rangers' Antti Raanta and Colorado's Calvin Pickard.

Nobody scored more among available players than the 33-year-old Eaves, who cracked the 20-goal plateau for only the second time with 32 last season. Those conversations have been ongoing for four or five intensive days and Vegas has basically reached the point where they need to turn off the phone and pick a team. He's a right-handed shot.

Among the other available defensemen: Paul Martin (San Jose); Trevor Daley (Pittsburgh); Ian Cole (Pittsburgh); Dan Hamhuis (Dallas); Johnny Oduya (Chicago); Dmitry Kulikov (Buffalo); John-Michael Liles (Boston); Jack Johnson (Columbus); Andrei Markov (Montreal); Brooks Orpik (Washington); Marc Methot (Ottawa).

Contrary to popular opinion, the Panthers left Jonathan Marchessault exposed for the draft.

The organization is even hoping a couple players will be able to make it to T-Mobile Arena for the reveal on Wednesday night - with Marc-Andre Fleury, the team's likely No. 1 goaltender, expected to be among them.

Longtime Arizona Coyotes captain Shane Doan - and last original member of the Winnipeg Jets - is the franchise's all-time leader in just about every offensive category.

Some deals are done; others will get done in the coming days.
