"The president is not under investigation by the special counsel", Sekulow told NBC's Chuck Todd. The tweet referred to a critique of Comey's handling of the FBI investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's private email server.

Sekulow said Trump "is not and has not been under investigation".

But Sekulow said that Trump was reacting to a Washington Post story that said special counsel Robert Mueller was examining whether Trump had tried to obstruct the probe by firing Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey in May. "The tweet from the president was in response to the five anonymous sources purportedly leaking info to the Washington Post". So that's why he put that in the tweet.

Appearing on a series of morning news programs, attorney Jay Sekulow said that a Friday tweet from Trump was specifically directed at a story in The Washington Post about the expanding probe into Russia's election meddling.

Sekulow, at one point, held up the letter from Attorney General Jeff Sessions and the Comey critique and said the president has a constitutional right to fire anyone in his administration.

Wallace then asked if Trump believes the law allows for a president to be indicted. After he was sacked and Trump hinted there were tapes of their conversations, Comey asked a friend to leak his memos to the New York Times.

On Twitter Friday, Trump wrote as part of a tweet about the probe that "I am being investigated".

Drug paraphernalia is also recovered from the house, an indication that Maute members were using shabu , Estribillo said. AFP said military forces were able to conduct successful operations against the NPA, mostly in North-eastern Mindanao.

Trump insists his campaign had nothing to do with Russian efforts to undermine credibility in the USA election.

The president also sent a tweet on Friday that explicitly stated he was aware that he is under investigation. But Sen. Marco Rubio said Sunday that he does not expect Trump to seek to fire them. "Bottom line is, we're going to continue to do our work". The source said investigators have sought information from Richard Ledgett, who recently retired as deputy NSA director and, the source said, had written a memo documenting an attempt from Trump urging Rogers to tamp down on the FBI's Russian Federation investigation.

Trump, who has denied any collusion between his campaign and Russian Federation, has frequently lashed out about the allegations, which have overshadowed his administration's efforts to overhaul the healthcare system, cut taxes and boost jobs.

When Todd pressed, asking if people are "not to take [Trump] at his word", Sekulow maintained that the president was responding to the Washington Post story reporting that he was being investigated for obstruction of justice by Mueller as part of the Russian Federation probe. I [have] every problem with how he's - what he's doing ...

Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House intelligence committee, defended Mueller and his team, noting that lawmakers from both sides of the aisle have praised his appointment.

"And the question is why?"

Also appearing on CNN's State of the Union, Sekulow said Trump's message on Twitter was an abbreviated response to the report, but added that Trump is "very effective" with his use of social media. They're essentially engaging in a scorched earth litigation strategy that is beginning with trying to discredit the prosecutor.
