While the introduction of Boeing Co.'s newest plane - the 737 MAX-10 - stole the opening day spotlight at the Paris Air Show, the aerospace giant also notched dozens of new orders for its North Charleston-made 787.

"The Max 10 will provide customers with even more flexibility in terms of airplane range and higher seat count", chief executive Dennis Muilenburg told the BBC.

Boeing Co. received more than three dozen pledges to buy the planned Max 10 on the first day of the Paris Air Show, as the United States company stretches its 737 workhorse to challenge Airbus SE's sales lead for the largest single-aisle airliners.

At least one potential Max 10 customer also voiced reservations.

Al Baker said he expects U.S. President Donald Trump will intervene "to make sure that this blockade is lifted soonest.especially since he knows that we are part of his alliance against terrorism".

"Airlines wanted a larger, better option in the large single-aisle segment with the operating advantages of the 737 MAX family", Kevin McAllister, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, said in a news release.

Airbus is also considering a response and could stretch the A321neo should demand be sufficient, sales supremo Leahy said in Mexico earlier this month, while dismissing the new Boeing plane as "very marginal".

German minister sees hope of 'soft' Brexit, with conditions
However, it seems unlikely he will be able to resist public comment on the Brexit process, which he has described as a "tragedy". Even if a trade agreement has been sealed, it could be introduced gradually during an "implementation phase" after Brexit .

In the past, Boeing has argued that the continuing rise in air traffic and the replacement cycle for older wide-body jets will reverse the slowdown in new orders. The Max 10 "looks great and we've got a lot of customers interested".

The announcement comes as the competition between Boeing and France-based Airbus continues to heat up. This latest iteration marks the third major overhaul to the 737 since the program launched in 1967 and features new engines and other aerodynamic enhancements.

Boeing has a test version of the 737 MAX 9 on display at Le Bourget airport north of Paris, which hosts the air show.

That would be the biggest deal yet for the stealth warplane, which is making its Paris debut this week.

Of the 108 orders and commitments announced so far, 4 were new firm orders, 40 were new commitments and 64 were conversions of existing orders for MAX 8 or MAX 9 models. "It may be flawless inside the USA, but not for us".

The A320neo range of jets, created to use less fuel than the original and widely-used A320s, have proven popular and are competing with Boeing's 737 Max series in the short to mid-range market.
