Star Trek: Discovery gets September premiere date

CBS has announced that the upcoming Star Trek Discovery will officially debut on the network on Sunday, September 24. The expanded season will now be split into two. The second half of the season (episodes 8-15) is slated to start next January.

The premiere and second episode will be available immediately on subscription service CBS All Access. The show will also be available on Space.ca and on participating On Demand channels. Star Trek Discovery will follow the crew of the USS Discovery as they explore the cosmos and encounter a momentous event from the Star Trek canon which took place almost ten years before the timeline of the original series.

Star Trek Discovery season 1 will begin on Sunday, Sept. 24.

While fans have been waiting impatiently for the first Star Trek television series in over a decade, executive producer Alex Kurtzman has assured fans that the final product will be worth the wait.

Essentially, what this means is that there are clearly tons of discussions happening in the Star Trek: Discovery writers' room as to what will and won't work within the established canon. Sonequa Martin-Green (The Walking Dead), plays First Officer Michael Burnham, and Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), plays Capt. Philippa Georgiou.

Trekkies living elsewhere on the planet - no information yet on how Alpha Centaurans can tune in - can watch the series on Netflix starting on September 25th, 2017.
