Virginia Governor Calls For Stricter Gun Controls After Shooting

This exact point is why you don't often hear about armed civilians thwarting an active shooter in many of these situations.

"It would have been a massacre without them", Sen. Officers in Scalise's security detail wounded Hodgkinson, who was taken into custody and later died. Loudermilk noted that one of his staffers keeps a 9mm handgun in his auto when in Georgia but does not have a firearm with him in the D.C. area because of legal restrictions in the city.

"If grown GOP were scared this am, can one imagine the terror kids had at Sandy Hook?"

For the Republican majority that incurred his rage, Hodgkinson's rampage and subsequent take-down only reinforced the NRA mantra that the only antidote for a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. Rep. Chris Collins, a Republican from upstate New York, suggested the shooting had been fueled by "outrageous" anti-Trump rhetoric and said he would carry his own weapon to all public events from now on.

Malloy said, "It sounds like, from what I heard, the weapon that was used could not be acquired in the state of CT now". But I'm not going to get anywhere near the investigation.

"I've long talked about this, background checks, shutting down gun show loopholes".

McAuliffe said, "I think we need to do more to protect all of our citizens", while making sure to tell the audience that "this is not what today is about". "I have long advocated - this is not what today is about - but there are too many guns on the streets".

Gov. McAuliffe, a known anti-gun zealot, chose to push for gun control at an inappropriate time with falsehoods.

In one early sign of the new pro-gun environment, Congress in February passed a resolution to block a rule that would have kept guns out of the hands of certain people with mental disorders.

Yet the Second Amendment argument was nearly unavoidable, with the notable wrinkle that the alleged shooter had made numerous anti-Trump statements on social media, appeared angered by Republican politics, was an ardent fan of Sen.

Iran denies Saudi claim of guard arrests
Iran said the three people detained were fishermen. "This was one of three vessels which were intercepted by Saudi forces". Tensions between Sunni-led Saudi Arabia and Shiite-dominated Iran are chronic.

Chris Hurst, a former WDBJ-TV news anchor man who was the boyfriend of Parker, is now running for a House of Delegates seat as a Democrat in the 12th district against Republican Del. Duncan, who was just about to leave the practice field, said the man asked whether the team practicing was a Democratic or Republican team.

Rep. Rodney Davis from IL was another who was there, and spoke later on television about what it was like to see a colleague like Scalise shot right in front of him, and in front of them all. "He said, 'Okay, thanks, ' turned around".

Democrats, who generally, though not uniformly, are more aggressive about gun control laws, expressed concern following the Alexandria incident, in which Republican Representative Steve Scalise and several other people were shot.

Scalise is among 148 co-sponsors of a bill to loosen restrictions on silencers that had been set for a hearing Wednesday. A congressional staffer and members of the congressional police force were also shot in the incident. They have made their careers based on an endorsement to easy access to guns and that is not going to change. After the shooting of 20 first graders and six educators at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown in December of 2012, CT approved a law imposing a number of new gun restrictions.

"It's unfortunate that some try to take advantage of disasters to go and try to chip those rights away", Scalise said. "This radical attempt by the Obama Administration to unilaterally rewrite the Constitution will launch our nation down a slippery slope as the White House shows a risky disregard for the rights and freedoms guaranteed to every American". That would be a real tribute to all of the victims of gun violence.

"Our thoughts are with those who have been shot and with their loved ones, and we commend the heroic effort by the law enforcement officers who intervened", said Brady Campaign President Dan Gross in a statement.

They're pushing ahead in a harsh environment.

A year ago, Congress was in a gun control debate after the shooting deaths of 49 people at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida.

However I no real hope that will happen.
