"Wonder Woman", set during World War I, garnered a 93 percent rating on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. On the other hand, Tom Cruise starrer action adventure horror flick "The Mummy" has grossed $32 million.

The Mummy is one of the actor's worst performing films at the domestic box office in recent years, but it is killing at the global box office.

The superhero blockbuster, starring Gal Gadot as the titular comic book character, raked in another $57.2 million (£44.9 million) over the weekend (09-11Jun17) to hold on to number one, after smashing box office records with its $103.3 million (£81.1 million) debut.

The reboot of the cinematic monster from Comcast Corp.'s Universal Pictures. opened to a weak $32.2 million in the USA and Canada, according to studio estimates.

"We would love to see more gross domestically", said Nick Carpou, Universal's president of domestic distribution, who asserted that "a lot of the attention that "The Mummy" garnered here, aggregated to the worldwide total". His star power now shines brightest overseas, where audiences have been more forgiving of the actor's baggage. That score was significantly greater than the film's weak performance in North America. But should there be any doubt, it's still full-steam ahead for the Dark Universe. It'll be up to Bill Condon (Beauty and the Beast) and Bride of Frankenstein to right the ship, with films starring Johnny Depp as The Invisible Man and Javier Bardem as Frankenstein's Monster also in the works.

This Friday released Tom Cruise's much-awaited film of the year "The Mummy" is not getting a desirable response.

"The array of titles available for us and the talent we have coming on board for the ones coming up, they all have to operate as an individual title", said Clark. Granted, my two young boys have a lot to do with that, but it actually looks like a nice turnaround for Pixar after CARS 2 and there's definitely a market for another movie about talking cars. The movie has now brought in a total of $205 million domestically. That's not a good enough reason for moviegoers to appreciate the Dark Universe as a brand. Lessons are learned from every movie.

Cruise mostly recently opened "Jack Reacher: Never Go Back" to a $22.9 million domestic opening, "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" to $55.5 million, and "Edge of Tomorrow" to $28.9 million.

- Notable new releases "It Comes At Night" and "Megan Leavey" start below the Top 5. With the smashing success of "Wonder Woman", she has opened the doors of Hollywood for herself and will remain busy for months in her professional life.

Final numbers are expected Monday.

Wonder Woman has also performed very well overseas, raking in $230 million in its first two weeks. Internationally, the fifth installment added another $34.8 million and has collected $464.4 million so far. Disney and Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" finished fifth with an estimated 6.2 million USA dollars in its sixth weekend.
