India arrests 15 people for celebrating Pakistan cricket team's win

"The arrests were made after their neighbours complained that they set off firecrackers and shouted pro-Pakistan slogans after Pakistan defeated the Indian cricket team", a police official said.

Millions of cricket fans in both countries avidly follow the proceedings on the cricket pitch, which often turn into tightly contested matches.

Reports said the youngsters were today produced in a local court, which rejected their bail applications and sent them to jail.

The officer said the celebrations continued for hours in the sensitive locality.

Another four Muslim men were arrested in Karnataka and charged with "hurting the religious sentiments" of India's majority-Hindu community.
