A veteran Los Angeles cop has been arrested for having sex with a cadet who was involved in taking police cruisers.

These programs include the Police Activity League and the Juvenile Impact Program, according to Friday's motion.

Last week Beck suspended the youth programs at the 77th Street and Pacific Divisions.

The equipment, checked out under a vacationing officer's name, was then used by the seven cadets to pull over drivers and impersonate officers, Beck said.

Cain was an "equipment room operator", responsible for overseeing equipment at the department's 77th Street Division, where the theft of three LAPD patrol vehicles occurred last week, Beck said. - An LAPD supervisor doing inventory discovered that a squad vehicle was missing from the 77th Street station on June 14, and the investigation quickly identified a female cadet caught on camera driving it off the lot, Police Chief Charlie Beck said last week.

Their relationship took place outside the 77th Street Division station where the 10-year veteran worked.

Rise & Shine: Mayoral control still far from settled
A replacement for the bridge between Rockland and Westchester counties has been under construction for more than 3 years. Legislators could return to Albany to take action before the law expires at the end of the month.

Beck is scheduled to speak to the entire cadet class at a graduation ceremony Saturday, and has repeatedly said he hopes the continually unfolding scandal does not tarnish the program as a whole.

More than 100 firearms, including modified assault rifles, were recovered at the home of the Los Angeles police officer accused of having sex with an underage member of the department's long-hailed cadet program, law enforcement sources told The Times on Friday. Police spotted two squad cars driving in tandem around 9:35 p.m. that night near the 77th Street station, leading to the chases. It was found near 76th Street and Central Avenue, authorities said. The driver of the other stolen cruiser crashed into a vehicle at Adams Boulevard and Central Avenue, and that driver was also was taken into custody.

"It's believed that he had knowledge of and has been involved in the unlawful use of police equipment, including cars", Beck said.

The roles each cadet played in the incident remains unclear, despite Cain only being suspected of sexual involvement with one of them. "I know that would be consistent with pedophile type behavior". But Beck said Cain was at one point in charge of the mechanism by which you check out police equipment at the 77th Street station.

"Cain had never been assigned to any of our youth programs, including the cadets program", Beck said.

The LAPD has more than 1,800 black-and-white squad vehicles but they are not all used every day, and because of the suspects' familiarity with the computer system, they were able to hide the thefts, Beck said.
