A military plane reportedly crashed in MS on the line between Sunflower and LeFlore Counties, killing five people. "Further information will be passed as available".

Preliminary reports indicate the plane took off from a base in Millington, Tennessee.

It crashed in a field near County Road 237 and Highway 82, which is near the LeFlore County/Sunflower County line.

Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen is directing comment to the military.

Gardner said in a statement. "It is a hard day when there is an incident that results in the loss of life", Gardner said. Mount Airy Police Chief Douglas Reitz confirmed the shooting, and said it involved the Howard County Police Department.

LeFlore County deputy coroner Will Gnemi told the Clarion-Ledger that the crash site is a very rural area, and that they are searching in a field with tall vegetation for more bodies.

The aircraft is a four-engine turboprop transport plane that is used by both the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Air Force.

"Please join Deborah and me in praying for those hurting after this tragedy", Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant said in a statement. It is unknown which branch of military the plane belonged to.
