Azure Stack is an extension of Microsoft's cloud infrastructure product Azure. The product announcements, part of the company's Inspire customer conference in Washington, come just days after news that Microsoft plans to lay off thousands of sales reps.

The vendor said the new platform represents a shift in how it takes its commercial offerings to market. Microsoft said it has delivered the Azure Stack software to its partners, which allows it to begin the certification process for their integrated systems.

The Azure Stack Development Kit (ASDK) is available as a free single-server deployment option for trial or proof of concept purposes via web download. With both pricing for the pay-as-you-use and capacity-based models available. Partners or enterprise end users can use it to build and validate applications for integrated systems deployments. Because of this, Microsoft said it enables "a truly consistent hybrid cloud platform." .

At Microsoft Inspire event today, Microsoft announced a new program for ISV partners called ISV Cloud Embed which will make it even easier for them to purchase Dynamics 365, Power Apps, Microsoft Flow & Power BI as embeddable "building blocks" to modernize existing business applications, and build new ones.

Microsoft Azure partners can easily leverage this program - for instance hosting their apps on Azure and then extending their functionality with capabilities from ISV Cloud Embed services. Go to market support is provided at all tiers. In the first six months of that initiative, the program helped close more than $1 billion in annual contract value for Azure partners, created $6 billion in Azure partner pipeline opportunity and generated more than 4.500 partner deals, Microsoft said.

If partner apps drive significant consumption, Microsoft will also offer co-selling support.
