Apple starts accepting PayPal as payment method

The PayPal payment option will show up under account settings and payment methods in a device logged into an existing Apple ID.

The new PayPal payment options is now available in Canada an Mexico and it should be headed to more countries soon.

Apple has embraced other third-party payment methods in some markets, for example, a year ago the company opened to Alipay, a service that is effectively the equivalent of PayPal of China.

Case in point, newly announced support for direct PayPal purchases of App Store, iTunes and iBooks items, as well as Apple Music subscriptions. The addition of PayPal will no doubt encourage even more users to make purchases using Apple's services as it rolls out worldwide. PayPal didn't say how much of the revenue generated from each purchase will be given to Apple.

The PayPal payment method for Apple IDs is launching today in Mexico, Canada and the UK.

The new payment option, which brings PayPal's One Touch to Apple ID accounts, allows for simple purchasing from all Apple devices, including Apple TV and Apple Watch. "PayPal's availability across Apple's services further expands our vision of providing customers a variety of ways to easily make mobile purchases, such as asking Siri to make a payment using the PayPal app", PayPal's COO Bill Ready said in a statement.
