Intel updates Xeon processors for data centre market

Intel says that it has already begun rolling out the new hardware to customers, with the likes of Google Cloud, AWS and AT&T having already bagged some of the 500,000 units shipped out ahead of Tuesday's official launch.

But Intel will face stiff competition from historic rival AMD, which recently launched its own next-generation data center processor.

"The new Intel Xeon Scalable Processors are an extraordinarily versatile foundation for data center applications ranging from cloud infrastructure to next-generation networking to artificial intelligence", said Jennifer Huffstetler, Senior Director, Datacenter Product Management and Storage, Intel Corporation. From density-optimized boards enabling high memory and processing performance, to versatile boards that support maximum capacity and I/O flexibility, Intel Server Boards are capable of handling the high demands of today's HPC workloads.

Created to support an expanding range of existing and emerging data center and network workloads including cloud computing, 5G-ready networks, high-performance computing and artificial intelligence.

Speaking to reporters Prakash Mallya, Managing Director - Sales and Marketing Group, Intel India said here that the new line of processors were created to support an expanding range of existing and emerging data center and network workloads including cloud computing, 5G-ready networks, high-performance computing and artificial intelligence.

Mr Mallya said as India Inc, increases its investment in technology, the country's data centre and network infrastructure would undergo a massive transformation. ' These customers, Intel claims, can benefit from an on-average 1.65x performance improvement over the company's previous-generation Xeon chips - rising up to 2.5x for IPSec forwarding and 2.2x for deep-learning training tasks.

Intel's new portfolio of data centre processors will provide businesses with the richest suite of platform feature innovations that deliver significant performance increases across key workloads.
