Sensex Rises 58 Points; Nifty Ends At 9816

The Sensex now trades at a almost 10-year high valuation of 18.4 times its estimated 12-month earnings amid the best rally among major Asian markets so far this year.

However, the gains were capped as investors awaited the consumer price inflation data, which is expected to cool off to a record low of 1.70 per cent in June, easing further from May's 2.18 per cent, according to a Reuters poll. ONGC closed 1.62 per cent higher after rising as much as 3.5 per cent during intraday trade.

The benchmark index of Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) posted a modest gain of 57.73 points in a lacklustre tradeto end at a record high for the third consecutive session todayat 31,804.82 due to brisk buying in Oil & Gas and Energy stockson the back of higher crude prices in global market.

At 0635 GMT, S&P BSE Sensex fell 0.03 percent to 31,738 while the broader NSE Nifty gained 0.04 percent to 9,790.
