Nebraska senior cornerback Chris Jones is expected to be out four to six months after undergoing surgery to fix a torn meniscus, head coach Mike Riley confirmed Saturday.

Jones was named to the preseason watch list for the Jim Thorpe Award, which is presented annually to the nation's top cornerback. After undergoing a procedure to fix the injury, he will miss four-to-six months. "(It will not be) no 4 to 6 months", Jones wrote.

Jones recorded 37 tackles, one sack and three interceptions last season, with one pick being returned for a touchdown. As a junior in 2016, Jones had three interceptions - including one he returned for a touchdown against in - en route to honorable mention All-Big Ten honors.
