The 50-year-old man's two-day remand order, which was granted yesterday, expired today.

The aide of a DAP state assemblyman, who is alleged to have molested a 21-year-old college student, was freed on Saturday after the court rejected his remand extension.

It was reported that the college student was allegedly sexually assaulted by the man, at a dark alley outside an entertainment outlet at Lebuh Pantai here, where she was working as a part-time waitress, on July 6.

According to the woman's police report, which has gone viral, the waitress alleged that the drunk man had taken her to the auto park, molested her and asked her to perform oral sex on him.

Gnasegaran told newsmen that police had wanted to further detain his client for another three days to enable them to complete the investigation and record statements from other witnesses.

A number of men were then seen jumping out of the vehicle and attacking the man with weapons, said to be bats or sticks. The man, who is believed to be in his 40s, received serious injuries and was brought to the Mater Hospital.

She claimed that the man offered her between RM500 and RM700 to spend the night with him but she refused and pleaded for him to stop his advances.

The student, accompanied by her father and boyfriend, related her ordeal during a press conference at the Parti Cinta Malaysia office in Air Itam on Friday.

"We went to the district police headquarters on Thursday at the request of the investigators".

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Anuar Omar said the police would refer the investigation papers to the deputy public prosecutor tomorrow.
