Fans of the developer's arcade Street Fighter series had their hopes immediately dashed.

Earlier this year a short teaser was released and the fighting game community responded very positively to the news, but at the time was said to be an elaborate April Fool's Day joke.

The game doesn't have an official title yet, but it includes characters from the Street Fighter EX series, and it will come in 2018 for PS4.

A new game that looks to capitalise both on Street Fighter's legacy and an older style of play is coming next year, and it looks good so far. Although, on the stage at Evo 2017, the company released a brand new trailer at the end of the BlazBlue finals. Their games introduced a number of original characters, like Garudo, Darun Mister and the best dude in a Skeleton costume ever, Skullomania.

The YouTube description of the trailer notes that, "ARIKA has made a decision to begin development on a PlayStation 4 version of "Mysterious Fighting Game (Title Undecided)" and make a public announcement on the final day of EVO2017".

The Street Fighter EX series was a spin-off of the Street Fighter franchise created by Arika in collaboration with Capcom during the golden age of fighting games.

Not only will the game likely borrow mechanics from the Street Fighter EX games, but it will also feature some of the game's characters. "This game will be the newest entry in the EX Series".
