Atletico de Kolkata, the Kolkata-based outfit from the Indian Super League, have made a major breakthrough, by signing former Manchester United forward, Edward Paul "Teddy" Sheringham, as their new head coach.

The two-time ISL champion parted ways with Antonio Lopez Habas, the current manager of Pune City FC, after his successful three-year stint.

"I am glad to welcome our new coach Teddy Sheringham to ATK family and strongly believe that it is going to be an enriching experience for him and the boys", ATK principal owner Sanjiv Goenka said in a statement. The pinacle of Sheringham's long career as a player came in 1999 when he scored the equaliser for Manchester United in their win over Bayern Munich in the final of the UEFA Champions League that year. "Our endeavour to retain expertise and map out a compact team structure has been enhanced with Sheringham joining the team this season", Goenka said.

The Premier League and Champions League victor took a short break following the end of his playing career, before he was appointed as West Hams striking coach during Sam Allardyce's final season at the club. "Sanjiv Goenka has told me about the Indian Super League and it seems like a great place to follow your football dreams and ambitions".
