Boy, 16, critical after moped and police vehicle collide

A TEENAGER who was riding with three people on a stolen moped is in a critical condition after a collision with a police auto.

The crash happened at 02:15 BST on Sunday in South Park Road, Wimbledon.

All three males were arrested at the scene and two large knives were recovered.

Another 16-year-old boy suffered serious injuries to his leg and a 15-year-old boy sustained minor injuries.

The Met confirmed cops were trying to stop the men at the time of the crash after suspicions it was involved in an earlier attempted robbery.

"Three males who had been riding the moped were taken to a south London hospital for treatment to their injuries".

A Spokesperson from Met Police said: 'The moped was not pursued by police vehicles on the ground.

At about 2.15am this morning (July 16), a moped and marked police auto collided in South Park Road near the junction with Trinity Road.

The Directorate of Professionals Standards has been informed and the incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
