Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera says David de Gea is in good spirits amid fresh Real Madrid rumours.

The same report states that Herrera's deal is set to be worth around £41.6m to him over four years as he looks to place himself as one of the highest-earners at the club.

Herrera had been linked with a return to Spain with Barcelona after his former manager Ernesto Valverde took over the hot-seat in Catalonia following Luis Enrique's departure at the end of the last campaign.

Herrera also talked about his worldwide teammate Alvaro Morata who was strongly linked with United before the Red Devils signed Romelu Lukaku.

Another United transfer narrative, surrounding the talks to acquire Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, has been discussed at length the past couple days.

"Of course I wanted to have Morata as a team-mate, he was very close because the two clubs negotiated", he continued.

"Madrid are the most powerful team of the moment", Herrera suggested. They are the strongest team right now, they've won the last two Champions Leagues, but a Super Cup final always motivates you.

"Getting back into the Champions League was fundamental to the club because we are going to be one of the rivals to beat".

Herrera's current contract expires next summer but the Spaniard is expected to sign a bumper new deal over the next fortnight.
