Kodak's Camera Centric Ektra Smartphone Now Launched in India for Rs. 19999

The device runs on dated Android 6.0 Marshmallow, which is a massive letdown. A few changes are also made for better low light photography. It is also available via Flipkart at Rs. 3,290. At such a high price tag, the device comes with below par specifications but serves its main objective as a camera-centric device. Already available in the United States of America and Europe, the smartphone lets aspiring photographers capture exceptional pictures.

Kodak forayed into the smartphone market with the launch of Kodak Ektra smartphone previous year. "The original Kodak Ektra Camera was launched in 1941 and in its latest reincarnation, opens up a world of creative opportunities to all who care about photography". "The KODAK EKTRA Smartphone is all about capturing the moment, telling a story, and revelling the experience of photography", he added while commenting on the launch.

It has a 21MP Sony IMX230 rear camera sensor protruding out of the device.

The noteworthy aspect of Kodak Ektra is its cameras - it features a 21-megapixel auto-focus primary camera with Aperture f2.0, Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), Phase Detection Auto Focus and HDR Imaging. It can also record videos in 4K resolution.

On the front, it houses a standard 13MP shooter for quality selfies. There is a physical shutter button placed on the bottom of the right edge. But where the Ektra excels is in the camera department. The custom built camera app is controlled by an intuitive haptic touch, SLR-style Scene Selection Dial, where adjustments are made in real time via a range of settings including HDR, Landscape, Portrait, Macro, Sport, Night-time, Panorama and Bokeh, alongside a Smart Auto mode which auto-selects the best conditions for your photographs. There is also a manual mode to adjust the aperture, ISO, focus, white balance and shutter speed. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass technology and a 2.5D curved glass on top. It is powered by a Mediatek's Helio X20 deca-core processor, which is paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The Ektra also includes a MicroSD card slot for storage expansion.
