The Italian heavyweights want to create a competitive side that will challenge Juventus for major honours next year and in order to do that, they want to add more quality players to their ranks.

Renato Sanches could be on the move this summer. The midfielder had impressed for Benfica and was a key part of Portugal's team as they won Euro 2016.

Reports out of Germany on Monday report that Portuguese global midfielder Renato Sanches is set to join Milan from Bayern Munich.

The Red Devils have instead been linked with the likes of Nemanja Matic, Eric Dier and Fabinho, with Milan seemingly now leading the chase for the 19-year-old's signature.

Sanches made just six starts in the Bundesliga last term, according to WhoScored.com, and he failed to establish himself in a high-class midfield.

Sanches' chances of first-team football have taken another hit following the big-money arrival of Corentin Tolisso.

Jay-Z Claims 14th Number One LP With '4:44'
The new July 29-dated chart (where JAY-Z starts at No. 1) will be posted in full to Billboard's websites on Tuesday, July 18. Despite 4:44's absence from Spotify, the album still generated the fourth-biggest streaming debut of 2017.

Milan approached Bayern about signing Sanches on-loan, but it seems the German club would prefer a permanent deal.

"I can confirm that Milan have shown interest in Renato Sanches", Rummenigge told Bild.

The offer was a two-year loan for €7m with option to buy in 2019 for another €40m.

"But we did not get any further".

"I have the impression that AC Milan is not ready to meet our economic demands, and as long (as that continues) nothing will be done". "At €48m (£42m) I would not be dissatisfied".
