UAE wants worldwide monitoring of Qatar

France's foreign minister on Saturday called on Qatar's neighbors to immediately lift measures impacting thousands of people in the Gulf, becoming the latest foreign diplomat to visit the region and attempt to help find a resolution to a crisis that has dragged on for more than a month.

Except for a memorandum of understanding signed by Qatar and the USA in Doha on fighting terrorism, no plans were put forward by the U.S. secretary of state to resolve the crisis.

When UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash said the boycott of Qatar will continue, he meant that the USA secretary of state's efforts have failed, and that Arabs have realized that Washington has given in to political opportunism and self-interest.

The deadline was extended by 48 hours on Sunday at the request of Kuwait, which is mediating in the crisis, and Qatar handed in the response on Monday.

The Kuwaiti emir Sheikh Sabah said that despite the bitter feelings on both sides, he remained hopeful they could be made to fix "our Gulf home".

A spokesman for Tillerson said ahead of his landing in Kuwait that it remained to be seen "if there's even a possibility of some outcomes" towards resolving the crisis.
