West Brom have strengthened their defensive options with the signing of Egypt worldwide Ahmed Hegazi from Al Ahly on a one-year loan.

"We're delighted to add Ahmed to the squad", said chairman John Williams.

"We're pleased he's here, he's a good addition", said Pulis. "He caught our eye at the African championships and we've been tracking him ever since".

Hegazi has flown out to Hong Kong to link up with the West Brom squad ahead of their Premier League Asia Trophy game with Premier League rivals Leicester on Wednesday, although he will need global clearance to play in the tournament.

Hegazi has moved to the Hawthorns on a year-long loan but West Brom have the option to make it a permanent deal.

Since the end of last season, head coach Tony Pulis has been in the market for a new centre-back and he has been successful in bringing in a player who has previously represented Fiorentina. He's got good pedigree and has played for some good clubs.

Hegazy was named in the African Cup of Nations team of the tournament after playing every single minute for Egypt en route to the final, which they lost to Cameroon. It's really, really good for us'.

He spent half a year in Serie B with Perugia before joining Al Ahly on a five year deal in 2015.
