While there weren't any specifics laid out, the team later confirmed they would be signing Pierce to a one-day deal so he could retire as a Celtic, and posted video of the cool moment on Twitter.

After being selected No. 10 overall in the 1998 NBA Draft, Pierce played for Boston from 1998-2013, finishing first all-time in 3-point field goals (1,823), free throws (6,434) and steals (1,583), while also placing as the Celtics' second all-time leading scorer with 24,021 career points. "He is among the very best Celtics - a champion on and off the court", Grousbeck said.

Pierce spent his first 15 years in the league with the Celtics, and was part of the team that won the National Basketball Association title in 2008. "We congratulate Paul on a Hall of Fame career, and look forward to seeing his number raised to the rafters of TD Garden".

In a tweet on Monday afternoon, the Celtics posted a picture of Pierce posing in his Celtics gear, along with a new 34 jersey to rep.

Pageau agrees to three-year contract with Senators
He will make $2.6 million in the first year, $3.3 million in the second and $3.4 million in the final year of the contract. Pageau, who was a restricted free agent , was scheduled to have a salary arbitration hearing in Toronto on July 28.

He noted in a team press release that it was an "honor" to sign with Boston one last time. He was named Finals MVP for his performance in the 2008 Celtics championship win over the Los Angeles Lakers. "The organization and city took me in and made me one of their own, and I couldn't imagine ending my career any other way".

He averaged 21.8 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.9 assists in 1,102 career games with Boston. "I'm a Celtic for life".

Pierce made 10 All-Star teams in an 11-season span from 2002-12.
