Julia Roberts strikes two-season Amazon TV deal with 'Homecoming'

The project drew a lot of interest in early June after it was reported that the movie star was in talks to headline the series.

Amazon confirmed to The Times the acquisition of the half-hour drama, directed and executive produced by "Mr. Robot" creator Sam Esmail, with a two-season, straight-to-series order. Amazon Studios will take worldwide rights and will make the show available via its Prime Video service around the world.

Homecoming arrives as a television drama, described as a political thriller, based on a popular podcast from Gimlet Media. The show focuses on a caseworker at a secret government facility, her supervisor, and a soldier; in the podcast, some of the workers at the facility are desperate to get out and rejoin civilian life.
