The telly favourite jumped to the defence of the Love Island contestants after Piers branded them as "stupid".

During the jokey interview with Iain, Susanna turned to Piers and said: 'I'll just tell you one thing, you are one hundred percent not my type on paper.' BOOM. "People make mistakes but who doesn't in real life?"

But Piers, 52, was quick to hit back saying: "My kids love it but I'm anxious about the role model impact on my sons who are 23, 20 and 16". He said: "Look mate, you melt! You've already got all your eggs in one basket anyway".

And his rant didn't stop there.

Good Morning Britain continues on ITV, weekdays from 6am.

Using one of the show's famous quotes Susanna then told her presenting partner: "Let me tell you something you are 100% not my type on paper".

However, before that happened, Piers called his co-star out by asking her to publicly apologise for what happened at the ITV Summer party.

Susanna eventually explained it to him, saying: "I'm using the lingo Piers. What's that got to do with the show?"

Piers disagreed saying: "I know you and I know if any of this lot came round with one of your sons you'd be horrified". At least the love islanders aren't so judgemental #LoveIsland [sic]'.

He told Iain: "I would like to bet you that none of these little wretched specimens will be with each other within the calendar year".

But after debates on TV about what is arguably the biggest TV sensation of the year, the heated discussion has now moved over to Twitter where the famously witty voice of Love Island, Ian Stirling, has got involved!

Kem and Amber, Camilla and Jamie, Marcel and Gabby, and Olivia and Chris will all go head-to-head to bag the crown and of course the whopping £50K cash prize.
