It crashed to defeat, 49-51.

It was a result that may have been hinted at earlier in the week.

If they had any, wouldn't it be wise to tell us about them? "We're getting nothing done".

McCain's office announced Monday night he will return Tuesday.

He will maintain his work schedule during these treatments, and plans to return to Washington at the end of the August recess, continuing his sixth Senate term, his office said.

McCain countered on Friday that "it is unfortunate that one senator chose to block consideration of a bill our nation needs right now, the National Defense Authorization".

The seven-year Republican quest to kill Obamacare, a major campaign vow by President Donald Trump, lay in ruins on Friday after the Senate failed to dismantle the healthcare law, with congressional leaders now planning to move on to other matters. Jeff Flake appeared to be dispatched to talk him out of it.

Senate Republicans and Vice President Mike Pence knew the margin would be tight. Lindsey Graham of SC. Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii, also voted against the "skinny repeal" bill.

McCain has defied his party before.

"And let's turn the page in another way". Bernie Sanders, and was known to unload on his own party when he felt they needed a reality check. We told our constituents we would vote that way and when the moment came, most of us did.

Prepare to bid farewell to most Cadillac sedans
Over at GM there have been reports that slow sedan sales could lead to the departure of a few of Cadillac's sedans. The Cadillac sedan lineup is about to be shrunk and simplified, according to CEO Johan de Nysschen via Reuters .

"You don't vote to advance bad legislation and hope it gets better in conference", he added.

Trump, of course, had insulted McCain back in 2015. I like people who weren't captured.

While the Senate's fumble makes getting health care reform done this year more hard, Republicans in the lower chamber haven't given up hope on fulfilling their top campaign promise. "Watch!" Trump tweeted after the vote. At one point, he even huddled with Democrats.

Sen John McCain leaves the Senate Chamber after a vote on a stripped-down version of Obamacare reform on July 28, 2017.

"Policies that do not stabilize the market and simply provide incentives for people to buy coverage will repeat what we have seen in the past, premiums will rise rapidly, few or no affordable coverage options will be available and more people will be uninsured", America's Health Insurance Plan President Marilyn Tavenner wrote Senate leaders. "John McCain is a hero", Schumer said.

Sen. Chris Coons, a Democrat from DE, had a feeling even earlier in the day that McCain may be on his side this time. Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein embraced him. "He was sort of leaving little hints, here and there", Coons said.

Sen. Susan Collins of ME, another of the three Republicans to vote against the GOP plan (Alaska's Lisa Murkowski was the other), said she is pleased that Sen.

Schumer said it isn't fair to blame McConnell for the failure of repeal. "I'm proud of the vote I cast tonight".

"I don't feel like we're in a war, but I feel like there's deep disappointment among House Republicans that we did our work and got a bill out and they failed".

"When I was diagnosed with kidney cancer", Hirono said, "I heard from so many of my colleagues, including so many of my colleagues from the other side of the aisle, who wrote me such wonderful notes".
