"The damage sustained to the three dinosaurs indicate that an angle grinder or hacksaw was used to remove the heads from the body", police said.

Police allege that the occupants of the vehicle are responsible and urged anyone who has any information or saw suspicious activity around the National Dinosaur Museum on Saturday night to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website quoting reference 6137157.

The three raptors were in an outside display area, but the vandals would have had to climb a fence to get to them.

"We went out to check it out and three of our dinosaurs here have been decapitated", museum staffer Mitchell Seymour told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. "We want people to give us information identifying who these idiots are".

"We're expecting these perpetrators, because they're obviously not very smart, will tell people about it", Station Sergeant Rod Anderson said.

The shocking incident took place over the weekend, possibly on Saturday (5 July) night.

Damage to the exhibit was discovered by children visiting the museum the next morning.

The museum appears to be a frequent target.

Months later three other dinosaurs were found vandalised at the museum.
