In phone call, Trump assures Guam of safety - and fame

Calvo had the president on speaker phone, and posted a video of the exchange to his Facebook page.

While Trump maintained a lighthearted tone, Guam's Office of Civil Defense started passing out flyers on Friday to help residents prepare for a missile attack from North Korea.

"I just wanted to pay my respect", Trump said to Calvo over the phone.

With Guam's safety in the balance, Trump assured the territory's Governor Eddie Calvo: "We are with you 1000 percent, you are safe". "They will fly 3,356.7 km (2,085.8 miles) for 1,065 seconds and hit the waters 30 to 40 km away from Guam". We are with you 1,000 per cent.

Mr Trump praised the scenic beauty of the island, which is roughly 3379 kilometres southeast of Pyongyang.

"Don't worry about a thing", President Trump responded.

Calvo agrees, saying, "It's paradise". It just looks like a attractive place.

I also wished him luck and told him that he made a good decision. "Players here now are so young and will stay for the future". I do think Alexandre Lacazette will be clinical but I can't guarantee he'll score in the big games , so I'd back him each-way.

North Korea has threatened Guam several times before, most recently in 2013, which prompted the United States to permanently deploy a missile defence system.

"Mr. President, as the governor of Guam, representing the people of Guam, and as an American citizen, I have never felt more safe or so confident, with you at the helm", Calvo responded.

"With all the criticism that's going on over there, from a guy that's being targeted, we need a president like you". "They should have had me eight years ago, or somebody with my thought process".

He then reassured Mr Calvo, who he describes as a "hell of a guy", telling him the U.S. military is "rock solid". Both of these factors were specifically cited by the North Korean military spokesman who delivered the missile threat to Guam.

It urges residents to identify concrete shelters near their homes - brick structures also work - and instructs people to dispose of their clothes and wash heavily after an attack in an effort to reduce the impacts of radiation.

In an earlier call, White House Chief of Staff John Kelly told Calvo: "We are all over this". They haven't quelled tensions, but could be a foundation for a more diplomacy, according to USA officials and others briefed on the process.

Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera told the Japanese parliament that its American-designed Aegis destroyers are capable of shooting down North Korean missiles and that any attack on Guam would be considered an "existential threat to Japan" under defense treaties with the United States.
