It's going to be hard to end that drought, though, when their pitching staff keeps dropping like flies.

Friday afternoon the club announced left-hander James Paxton has been placed on the 10-day DL with a strained pectoral.

Paxton is, unfortunately, no stranger to the disabled list.

Preemptive strike against North Korea on the table
North Korea has announced plans to fire missiles near Guam in a growing exchange of threats with U.S. president Donald Trump . So we pray for the safety of the people of North Korea and the people of Guam, of our soldiers, the men and women in uniform.

This is basically the worst case scenario for the Mariners who are in the midst of a playoff race. More updates on Paxton's status should be made available once the Mariners release further information.

The offense will now have to produce even more runs knowing that they don't have the pitching to compete with who they're facing on any given night. As of the time of the Paxton announcement, the Mariners (59-57) were tied with the Rays for the second wildcard sport. The Mariners took him in the second round of the 2015 MLB Draft out of Oregon State and he's 3-3 with a 3.69 ERA in 11 starts with Triple-A Tacoma this year.
