Chelsea and Manchester United have both put their faith in big-money strikers as they bid to win the Premier League title this season.

The Catalan has looked to rectify that by spending big in the summer transfer window, almost in the excess of £200million, and City have backed that spending up in pre-season winning their last three matches.

City's playing staff has undergone a massive overhaul over the last two summer transfer windows after Guardiola took over one of the oldest squads in Europe.

"Everybody did an wonderful job last season...we've got to try and keep that high level [into this season] because this is the Premier League.

I think also in this season, this will happen". But the solution is not changing players every season.

Guardiola, a former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager, has yet to win a trophy since taking charge of City at the start of last season.

Guardiola seemed unprepared for the rude physicality of English football and was derided for saying he was "not a coach for the tackles" after a one-sided 4-2 defeat at Leicester City.

But Benjamin Mendy is still injured while young Brazilian striker Douglas Luiz has been loaned to Girona for the season.

Yet, a team featuring Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus up front and a sprinkle of attacking midfielders like Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva, new signing Bernardo Silva, Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling promises lots of goals this season.

Today Carrols Restaurant Group, Inc. (TAST) Stock Rises
The restaurant operator reported $0.14 earnings per share (EPS) for the quarter, missing the consensus estimate of $0.20 by $0.06. Cambridge Investment Research Advisors, Inc. grew its ownership by buying 13,746 shares an increase of 37.6% in the quarter.

"At home, we lost only one match, to Manchester City".

"It took a bit of an adjustment for Pep Guardiola, but City are my favourites".

Liverpool have brought in speedy Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah from AS Roma and Scotland full back Andy Robertson from Hull but have not made the kind of acquisitions that would transform their chances of a first title in the Premier League era.

Mourinho reiterated at a pre-match conference yesterday his satisfaction with the club's transfer business this summer window, despite not achieving "100 per cent" of his targets. The Arsenal manager should have left after winning the FA Cup at the end of last season.

Even more so than his old foe Jose Mourinho across town at Manchester United, if Guardiola can not at the very least orchestrate a sustained title challenge, his gilded reputation will take a sizeable hit.

United will accrue the points they dropped at home last season thanks to the presence of Lukaku, while Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan should substantially improve on their slightly underwhelming previous campaigns.

Another season without silverware will raise serious doubts as to whether he really is the man to carry City to the summit of European football for the first time.
