After the contest, Gunners manager Arsene Wenger claimed the winning goal was vindication for Olivier Giroud's determination to remain in North London. Because I know how important he is, not only as a player - he is a fantastic player - but as well in the group.

"To be honest, there was something in my soul and in my heart which told me to stay", Giroud told reporters.

Substitute Ramsey smashed in an angled drive - from a corner which was won after Mesut Ozil handled in the build-up - before Giroud showed athleticism and strength to meet Granit Xhaka's corner.

An admiring Wenger said Giroud was "in his prime" and "at the top of his game".

Alexandre Lacazette moved to the Emirates Stadium this summer and scored less than two minutes into his Premier League debut.

After enduring a troubled campaign marred by fan protests against him last season, Wenger desperately needs a strong start this term.

Wenger said he had given the former Montpellier man the chance to leave but is delighted he opted to stay put. He is an intelligent player.

Wenger remains concerned by his side's defensive frailties and insists it is something they must work on.

Police report that his "assailant" fled the scene, and is being sought on charges, but I do hope they don't look too hard. The two tourists were fined almost $600 each but were permitted to leave the country with their tour group, police said.

Okazaki, who headed home by the far post from a short corner, was pleased he scored on opening night but was not about to get carried away.

The guests capitalised on the abundant mistakes from Arsenal players and their sloppy defending as Jamie Vardy eventually made it 2-1 from Marc Albrighton's cross around the half-hour mark.

"Well if you were a manager and you would be on the bench when you're 3-2 down with 20 minutes to go, and you win 4-3, you're more happy than concerned".

"I think we have all seen the amusing business of the transfer window and we never know what is round the corner".

"We were quite good a year ago on corners".

Arsenal were without regulars Sanchez, Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi against Leicester.

But he drew encouragement from his side's display. I got back late, I should have handled this better. "To come here and score three has to be pleasing in some respect, but it doesn't feel like it".

After undergoing solid preparation for the EPL opener, including beating Chelsea in the Community Shield, Arsenal were expected to start the season in a serene manner - score a couple of goals, make that back three look solid and pick up the three points without too much fuss.
