Chance the Rapper holds free invite-only surprise concert

Chance the Rapper led the way as grand marshal of the annual Bud Billiken Parade in the South Side. The Chicago native also gave out backpacks during the parade.

Chance, 24, is a vocal supporter for his city's school system.

It has been a big two years for Chance the Rapper, between working diligently with Kanye West on the latter's "The Life of Pablo" album to winning awards at this year's Grammys, BET Awards and iHeartRadio Awards. The parade, now in its 88th year, is a tradition meant to serve as a back-to-school send off.

And while Gov. Bruce Rauner made an appearance before the parade, he did not address the funding issue during the event.

The rapper tweeted during the parade that he was giving out free tickets for the "BBBash" throughout the city.
