Gardaí will continue their search today for Trevor Deely, who disappeared in Dublin 17 years ago.

The 22-year-old was last seen walking home from a Christmas party in the Haddingdon Road area in 2000.

It's hoped the latest search will lead to a breakthrough in the case.

It is understood that the source chose to provide the information after being interviewed during a "cold case review" of the original investigation.

The file on Trevor Deely has never been closed and there have been a number of appeals for information over the years but Trevor has never been found.

In April, a fresh appeal into his disappearance was issued after enhanced CCTV footage showed him talking to a man who detectives believe was "acting suspiciously".

Gardai in Dublin say that they might be weeks searching a on three acres of woodland which has been sealed off in Chapelizod in south Dublin.

The search is, however, said to be unrelated to the footage.
