Leonardo DiCaprio to portray Leonardo da Vinci in his next movie

The actor's mother famously claims to have chosen the artist as her son's namesake when she felt an in utero DiCaprio kick for the first time while examining a da Vinci piece at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy back in 1974. Paramount Studios and Universal Pictures are now in a bidding war for the rights to the upcoming book Leonardo Da Vinci by Walter Isaacson.

DiCaprio will reportedly produce the movie with Jennifer Davisson through his production company Appian Way, which has produced many of his films including The Revenant, The Wolf of Wall Street and Shutter Island.

Univeral is apparently very interested in Isaacson's book, as well, turning the rights battle into a seven-figure tour de force.

Police also said a helicopter crash that killed two Virginia state troopers outside Charlottesville was linked to the rally. There were several hundred protesters marching in a long line when the vehicle drove into a group of them.

The Oscar victor will portray the painter, widely considered one of the greatest artists of all time, in a new movie based on Walter Isaacson's book about the man.

This particular project is rather fitting as Leonardo has previously revealed he was actually named after the famous Italian painter and scientist. Most recently, his 2007 book "Einstein: His Life and Universe" was adapted into National Geographic's "Genius", starring Geoffrey Rush as Einstein. The studio is hoping that DiCaprio will star for them in The Devil In The White City, an adaptation of the Erik Larson book that's got a script by Billy Ray and will re-team DiCaprio with Martin Scorsese. The biopic will star fellow Leo, Leonardo DiCaprio. Walter Isaacson's Leonardo Da Vinci will hit book shelves on October 17, 2017.
