Speaking to India Today over phone, minister Subhash Desai confirmed this that on Saturday morning he met CM Fadnavis and offered his resignation.

On Saturday morning, Desai went to the CM's official residence and offered to resign.

I have now chose to face the inquiry with utmost transparency."Fadnavis spoke to Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray and both agreed that the resignation should not be accepted". Fadnavis, however, refused to accept his resignation. "This precedent of accepting resignations on the strength of just Opposition's allegations is not good for the state".

According to Desai, since inquiry was instituted against him, it was not moral on his part to remain in the chair of a minister.

"Desai told me that he wanted to stay away till the inquiry is over. But, yes, those who are levelling allegations they should first come clean." said Uddhav Thackeray. "However, the Chief Minister refused to accept my resignation and said I need not resign", Desai said."The Chief Minister said, let there be an independent inquiry and until the result is out for everyone to see, I should continue performing my duty", he said.Desai said, he has made a decision to co-operate with whatever inquiry is instituted and accept its result. "I will cooperate with the inquiry completely and accept with the outcome of it", he added. Desai, a Sena leader, is accused of returning land that was notified for industries to farmers who actually have already sold their land to builders.

Learner drivers to be allowed motorway lessons
The Government consulted on the change earlier this year having announced its intention at the tail end of 2016 to lift the ban. The change will allow people who had not yet passed their test to drive on Britain's motorways with an approved instructor.

Mehta is accused of illegally transferring FSI of an SRA project to PAP project and faces charged of nepotism, quid pro quo and irregularities in housing sector controlled by his department.

The opposition has alleged that the move was aimed at favouring a particular developer.

But, the Opposition called it as drama of Shiv Sena and BJP.

Mr Desai also spoke to Mr Thackeray on the issue. "The same government has applied different parameters to Desai and Mehta and Eknath Khadse, who was sacked pending inquiry", said Sawant. "It shows how serious Shiv Sena and BJP are". He said there was no need for the resignation. Leader of the opposition in the council, Dhananjay Munde said that these charges were a blot on the clean image of the government and that the people still looked at him as a CM with a clean image. However, for now, it seems both the ruling parties have closed their ranks around the ministers facing probes."This is a cover-up".
