Roanoke city leaders plan vigil in light of violence in Charlottesville

The woman was killed and 19 others were injured when the vehicle slammed into the crowd of peaceful protesters who came to oppose the rally, which was spurred by plans to remove a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee. At least one person was killed while 26 others were injured. Police also said a helicopter crash that killed two Virginia state troopers outside Charlottesville was linked to the rally.

The white nationalist group initially gathered in Charlottesville to protest plans to remove a statue of Confederate Civil War General Robert E. Lee while other groups arrived for a counter-protest.

Tropical storm forms west of Mexico, but quickly weakens
Forecast models put the storm on a northwest path toward the US but then curve it away from the USA without reaching the coast. However, the air that the system is running into will be dry, which might prevent it from organizing.

The vigil will be held at 6 p.m. on the Martin Luther King Jr. There were several hundred protesters marching in a long line when the vehicle drove into a group of them.
