The France global came off the bench to head home in the 85th minute as the Gunners kicked off the Premier League season with a thrilling 4-3 win. An equalizer by Aaron Ramsey was followed by a header from fellow substitute Giroud sealing a 4-3 victory over the 2016 champions.

Flying wing-back Sead Kolasinac and Welbeck saw another couple of chances come and go as the Gunners pressed for a second, but it was Leicester who found the game's next goal against the run of play 29 minutes in.

Arsenal appeared a step behind defensively, ceding possession nearly uncontested at moments, and Marc Albrighton would make them pay, jumping on a misplayed ball from Arsenal and sending a lovely cross to Jamie Vardy who would put it away to give Leicester City their first lead of the campaign.

Arsenal opened the scoring in the second minute but the Foxes hit back to lead 2-1 and then 3-2 before the Gunners' spectacular comeback in the closing minutes.

Arsene Wenger saw substitute Olivier Giroud score a late victor to see off Leicester before admitting he gave the striker a chance to leave the Emirates Stadium this summer.

Asked if Giroud could still leave before the transfer window closes on August 31 until January, Wenger replied: "No". But I don't want him to go and in the end he made a decision to stay. "I know how important he is not only as a player but also in the group". He doesn't want to leave and I'm happy that he wants to stay. "Overall I must say we kept going and the spirit of the team was absolutely outstanding and overall you could say as well we were punished on every single mistake tonight by a Leicester team who was very efficient going forward", Wenger said after the win, as quoted on Arsenal's official site.

Opening weekend activity continues later Saturday with Liverpool visiting Watford in the early match and six other contests starting later.
