At least 17 immigrants were found in a trailer in Texas Sunday, local reports say.

There were no ambulances observed on the scene, and Edinburg police did not report any injuries or casualties. Police told KTRK-TV the trailer was "full of people", but was unable to give an exact number.

The trailer was found at a Flying J truck stop on Monte Cristo road. When officers got thumps once more from one trailer, they discovered 17 migrants bolted inside from Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and Romania, police said.

Border Patrol is taking over the investigation.

According to an NBC affiliate, a man and woman who were in charge of the trailer were detained. They were drinking filtered water while Border Patrol operators directed the examination.

Before being arrested, The Monitor watched a gathering of more than 10 people sitting in a shaded zone underneath a tree.

This is a developing story.
