Giants outfielder Jarrett Parker didn't play in that series, but enters Friday's tilt with eight RBIs during his six-game hitting streak. It's been more than a month since manager Bruce Bochy addressed Morse's health on the record, and he said he hoped that Morse might be able to return to the club in September.

Manager Dusty Baker said Harper hyperextended his left knee and was scheduled to have an MRI on Sunday.

Edwin Jackson, the Washington starter and victor, said, "You hope for the best". If Harper has that same injury, that would devastate the team's chances of reaching their ultimate goal of a World Series championship.

On Saturday, he consistently shut down Cubs threats while scattering five hits in 6 2/3 scoreless innings.

The Nationals won the clash against the Giants with a 3-1 triumph. And they won't have a rested starter to take the ball on Wednesday. The Nationals are 69-45 and the Giants are 46-71, including 0-4 this year against Washington.

Felix's gold takes her to the all-time leader in terms of world medals - one ahead of Jamaican duo Merlene Ottey and Usain Bolt . Trinidad and Tobago finished in sixth place, with Brazil in seventh place and the Netherlands in eighth place.

Right-hander Edwin Jackson (3-2) allowed one earned run on five hits and struck out five in six innings before giving way to Washington's newfound lockdown bullpen trio of Brandon Kintzler, Ryan Madson and Sean Doolittle.

Giants players were already in street clothes talking to family and friends and walking toward the team buses before the game was announced as postponed. As noted in the chart, the Nats have been average when Harper has missed significant time.

Harper, 24, left Saturday's game with a.326/.419/.614 batting line, 29 home runs and a 1.034 OPS through 472 PA in 2017. "I think it's best that he doesn't start", Baker said Thursday.

It was easy to assume that Harper was gone for the season, and it was just as easy to start worry about when he would be back in 2018. Baker said Bochy was the first one to call him when he was sacked by Cincinnati, and Baker called in April when Bochy had a heart procedure. It was Samardzija who was racing into a scrum earlier this season to get to Harper, but Michael Morse got in the way and saw his season end instead.

"The good thing is he's young and strong", Baker said.
