In a segment from Thursday's episode of The Late Show, host Stephen Colbert might have given President Donald Trump some ideas after the president claimed his threats against North Korea might not have been tough enough. The new rating marks Trump's highest approval the poll has recorded since July 12.

The poll surveyed 25,589 people and showed 61 percent chose Trump compared to 39 percent who chose Obama.

TONIGHT: Trump doubles down on his "fire and fury" threat to North Korea, and Stephen's figured out what that means. President Trump tweeted earlier this week.

Trump has spent the week escalating tensions with North Korea after the nation announced it was moving forward with developing plans to attack the island territory of Guam.

The United States' defenses are "locked and loaded", the president tweeted. "Hopefully Kim Jong Un will find another path!" Trump's highest approval rating is 59 percent - recorded on January 26 - less than a week after he took the oath of office.

"The president's most recent comments are recklessly belligerent and demonstrate a grave lack of appreciation for the severity of the North Korea nuclear situation", House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said.

The poll was conducted by phone and online Wednesday through Thursday among 1,000 usa citizens, and has a margin of error of plus-minus 3 percentage points.
