Matic moved to Manchester United in a £40m deal from Premier League champions Chelsea earlier this month in a deal that raised eyebrows given the defensive midfielder's importance to the west London side.

The Manchester United midfielder's Old Trafford debut was overshadowed by Romelu Lukaku's two goals against the Hammers in their Premier League opener on Sunday afternoon.

This was a scintillating attacking performance, and talk will naturally surround Romelu Lukaku's performance, but everything started with the former Chelsea man, who patrolled West Ham and turned them into his plaything.

Jose Mourinho: "Many times last season, we deserved to win and we didn't". "They were very compact but after the first goal we had more space". Our challenge is to keep this level of results and confidence levels.

We all deserve a future for our children and for our culture. "It is not ideal ; there are flaws to it, of course". White nationalists led a torch march through the University of Virginia Friday night .

"Then this season, when I got the call that Matic wants to play for me and for Manchester United, and he can make it happen, I thought he's the flawless player for me".

"It's the way I trust the player is going to perform, so I think it was a fantastic signing for us".

Phil Jones: "It was important for us all to get off to a good start today in front of our home fans and make sure we got the three points".

Football host Jake Humphrey was impressed with Matic's performance, tweeting "what were Chelsea thinking". We've seen him a lot over the years but I thought he was better on the ball than I've seen him before.
