Finding a consistent place to host its men's basketball tournament has proven to be a bit hard for the American Athletic Conference, which isn't all that surprising when considering the fact that the league has members in states such as Connecticut, Florida, Texas and Oklahoma.

The American Athletic Conference men's basketball tournament will head to Fort Worth, Texas from 2020-22, the league announced on Wednesday. The dates of the championships will be March 12-15, 2020; March 11-14, 2021; and March 10-13, 2022.

This is the second big college basketball event Dickies Arena has landed before its scheduled opening in late 2019. Wednesday's announcement adds another event to the calendar for Dickies Arena, which will host NCAA tournament first and second round games in 2022 as well as the NCAA Division I Gymnastics Championship from 2020 to 2022.

The arena is owned by the city of Fort Worth and not one of the conference's member schools, though SMU is nearby.

Orlando will host the 2018 AAC tournament, which moves to Memphis in 2019.

This year's addition of powerhouse Wichita State all but ensured the American would start scheduling conference tournaments farther west. Oklahoma City also was under consideration as a host site.

"Fort Worth takes great pride in hosting world-class sporting events, and we are excited about the AAC's decision", said Bob Jameson, president and CEO of the Fort Worth Convention & Visitors Bureau.
