President of Seychelles to attend southern Africa heads of state meeting

The President of Seychelles Danny Faure leaves the country on Friday to attend the 37th summit of the Heads of States of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) taking place during the weekend in South Africa.

It said the Democratic Republic of Congo was in a constant war in an environment in which its President is unwilling to call an election while in Zimbabwe had no formal Consitution implemented despite its citizen voting for it two years ago.

On arrival at Sheraton Pretoria Hotel where he will be lodging, President Lungu was welcomed by Home Affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo, Minister of Development Planning Lucky Mulusa, Zambia's High Commissioner to Botswana Brigadier General Patrick Tembo, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry Kayula Siame, Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary Chalwe Lombe among other senior government officials.

The 37th SADC Summit has been adjourned on concentrating on roping in the private sector to develop plans for the region. The total membership has since grown to 15 member states.

The main objectives of SADC are to achieve economic development, peace and security, and growth, alleviate poverty, enhance the standard and quality of life of the peoples of Southern Africa, and support the socially disadvantaged through Regional Integration.

According to the press release, the summit was preceded by senior officials' meeting from Saturday to Monday, the Council of Ministers meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday and the SADC Double Troika Summit on the today.

During the Summit South Africa will assume the role of Chair of the SADC taking over from the Kingdom of Swaziland.

The Department of International Relations and Cooperation isn't commenting on reports that its granted diplomatic immunity to Mrs Mugabe to prevent her from being prosecuted.
